Kindergarten Literacy, Social Enrichment

Key academic and social concepts are reinforced by singing in kindergarten classrooms
“Rushing, Rushing gotta get it done, not my best work sort of sloppy, move too quickly, make mistakes. Slow it down like a turtle, like a snail you’ll go slow…take your time it’s the best way every time.”

About the grant

Grant recipient: Rachel Perry Haen, kindergarten teacher at Aquila Elementary School

About the grant: The grant was used to produce a CD of original music written by Ms. Haen and collaborator Dave Mavis, and to provide a copy of the CD to all kindergarten and pre-kindergarten students in the district.

About the music: The music is specifically designed for the child's early years. The music aligns with many of the math and literacy standards in St. Louis Park and is used to enrich the social learning and connectedness that students have to their classroom communities and schools.
