Percussion Kits |
Additional bell kits in band rooms provide greater access and efficiency
|
About the grant
Grant recipient: Jini Block, elementary band teacher
About the bells: Bell kits that stay in the music room alleviate the challenge of students’ forgetting their percussion instruments at home or having trouble getting the cumbersome instruments to school on band days. In addition, they allow for standardized instruction in percussion so all band classes have the same experience in learning percussion.
Results: All students got to play on the bells for the first half of the year, enjoying the same experiences across schools and learning to read notes equally among schools. Extra snare pads included in the kits helped alleviate volume concerns, as well, and having the kits in the band classroom meant students could get to work more quickly and enjoy more instructional time per class session.
